There are also other nice hotels in the area (suggested below), but we the conference will not be able to arrange transportation form those hotels to WSU. • WSU Towers Residential Suites. This option is no longer available. We can no longer make changes to the pre-paid itinerary. Please see below for other housing options.

  • Hilton Garden Inn – Detroit Downtown Hotel. 100 hotel rooms have been reserved at the Hilton Garden Inn – Detroit Downtown Hotel at a significantly discounted rate of $119/night. We will provide shuttle transportation between Hilton Garden and WSU. The shuttle schedule is available here.

The new Hilton Garden Inn Detroit Downtown hotel is in a prime downtown Detroit, Michigan location. Hotel guests  will be within a short drive from Wayne State University. Outside of the conference, the hotel is within walking distance to area's cultural attractions (such as the opera, museums, and sporting events), and nice Detroit neighborhoods such as Greek Town (a little area which includes Greektown Casino and many bars and casual restaurants including Fishbones, Pegasus, Mosaic, and Astoria Bakery).

This Hilton Garden Inn Detroit Downtown hotel offers deluxe accommodations, friendly service and a relaxed Michigan style atmosphere.

Conference participants who elect to stay at the Hilton Garden can make their reservations here. Alternatively, you can go to the hotel's main website. To access a special DPF-2009 conference fee of $119 per night there, please enter Group Code "APW". If you arrive by car, there is a $30/night valet parking, which is not included in the accommodation fee.

  • Other hotels in the area that we can recommend include The Inn on the Ferry Street (a very nice, but small B&B on the edge of campus), The Atheneum (a luxury hotel in the Greek Town district),  MotorCity Casino Hotel (a new hotel across the street form the MotorCity Casino), Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center (a downtown hotel on the Detroit River with breathtaking views from its rooms) and many others.
  • Please also check the newly reopened Hotel St Regis Detroit (tel 313-873-3000) - they informed us that they can provide a shuttle from the hotel to WSU campus. There is a specail WSU rate of $99/night. We have also been informed by the conference participants that you can get a rate as low at $62/night on Orbitz.com at this hotel.

Please note that some of those hotels have their own shuttle services. You can also get around the city using The People Mover, a monorail transportation system connecting the downtown area (see the coverage map).
